Minnesota Wild Signs Defenseman Mike Reilly to a Two-Year, Entry-Level Contract

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed free-agent defenseman Mike Reilly to a two-year, entry-level contract. He will wear sweater No. 4 with the Wild.

Reilly, 21 (7/13/93), collected 42 points (6-36B) in 39 games during his junior season at the University of Minnesota. The 6-foot-1, 182-pound blueliner was named a Hobey Baker Memorial Award Finalist and led NCAA defensemen in scoring and assists. He also led the NCAA with 19 power-play assists and ranked T-3rd in the nation with 21 power-play points (2-19!) and T-8th with a plus-25 rating. Reilly led the Gophers in scoring, assists and plus-minus rating.

The Chicago native, who grew up in Chanhassen, Minn.,was named a First Team All-American and the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year following his sophomore and junior seasons. Reilly helped the U.S. Men's National Team win a bronze medal at the 2015 World Championship recording one assist in 10 games. He recorded 33 points (9-243) in 41 games in 2013-14 and totaled 89 points (18-71) and 76 penalty minutes (PIM) in 117 games in three seasons with the Gophers. Reilly also won a gold medal at the 2013 World Junior Championship and bronze medal at the 2011 World Junior A Hockey Challenge.

He helped the Penticton Vees of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) set a North American junior hockey record with a 42-game win streak during the 2011-12 season and won the RBC Cup and Doyle Cup championships. Reilly led BCHL defensemen in goals (24), assists (59), and points (83) and won the BCHL Interior Conference Best Defenseman Award and was named to the BCHL All-Rookie Team. He was originally selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the fourth round (98th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Reilly was born in Chicago, Ill., and grew up in Chanhassen, Minn.
