Deven Marrero Promoted to Portland Sea Dogs

Portland, Maine - The Boston Red Sox have promoted 2012 first round draft pick, Deven Marrero, to the Portland Sea Dogs from Single-A Salem. Sea Dogs' infielder Heiker Meneses was transferred to Triple-A Pawtucket.

The Sea Dogs also received outfielder Ronald Bermudez from Triple-A Pawtucket and activated outfielder Peter Hissey from the disabled list. Outfielder Matty Johnson was transferred to Single-A Salem and outfielder Kevin Heller was transferred to Single-A Greenville.

Marrero entered the 2013 season as the tenth ranked prospect in the organization according to Baseball America. The 22 year-old shortstop appeared in 85 games with the Salem Red Sox this season hitting .256 (85-for-332) with 20 doubles, two home runs, 21 RBI, and 21 stolen bases. In 2012, Marrero finished second in the New York-Penn League with 24 stolen bases. He was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the first round (24th overall) of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Arizona State University. While playing for Arizona State, Marrero was named Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year and first team All-Pac-10 in 2011.
