READING, Pa. - Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Jonathan Pettibone will begin his major league rehab assignment with the Reading Fightin Phils on Thursday when he starts against the Binghamton Mets at 7:05 p.m. Thursday's game features a post-game fireworks show thanks to Pepsi and a happy hour pre-game concert from Red.

Pettibone was placed on the disabled list August 2nd with a right shoulder strain. In 18 starts with the Phillies this season, he is 5-4 with a 4.04 ERA across 100 1/3 innings pitched. In 15 of his 18 starts with Philadelphia, Pettibone has allowed three earned runs or less.

Pettibone started the season as a member of the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs where he went 0-1 with a 7.94 ERA in three starts for the club. Following an injury to fifth starter John Lannan, he made his major league debut on April 22, striking out six in 5 1/3 innings while allowing two earned runs. He picked up his first winning decision a start later against the New York Mets.

The 23-year old played came to Reading in 2012 as part of the "Baby Aces", a much-heralded trio of starting pitchers from the lower levels of the Phillies system that also featured Trevor May and Julio Rodriguez. Pettibone stood out among the three pitchers, going 9-7 with a 3.30 ERA in 117 1/3 innings. His ERA mark was tenth best in the Eastern League.

For his success, Pettibone was promoted to Lehigh Valley on July 30 where he went 4-1 with a 2.55 ERA. He held Triple-A hitters to a .204 AVG and did not allow a home run during the stint.

Heading into the 2013 season, Pettibone was ranked as the fourth-best prospect in the Phillies minor league system by Baseball America. He was drafted by the Phillies between the third and fourth rounds of the 2008 draft out of Esperanza High School.
