LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets defeated the Erie SeaWolves, 6-1, in the rubber match on Sunday afternoon at Jerry Uht Park. Cory Vaughn drove in four runs and Mark Cohoon allowed one run over six innings to lead the B-Mets. Binghamton took the lead from the SeaWolves in the second inning when Vaughn launched a two-run home run. Travis Taijeron added to the offense with a solo homer to left field in the sixth inning. Cohoon sailed through four shutout innings before loading the bases in the sixth. He pitched himself out of trouble however, inducing a groundout to end the threat. The B-Mets put the game out of reach with a three-run seventh. Chasen Bradford silenced Erie with two perfect innings, and Adam Kolarek worked a quiet ninth to secure Binghamton's 22nd series win.

BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Erik Goeddel makes his 22nd start of the season for the B-Mets and first against Reading. He was tagged with the loss in his last start against the Altoona Curve on August 7. He allowed three unearned runs and three hits over six innings in Altoona's 5-4 win. Over Goeddel's last two starts he has thrown 12.1 innings on the mound and has not given up an earned run, but has not picked up a win. He has spent all season with the B-Mets, and ranks second on the team in wins. The Mets drafted him in the 24th round of the 2010 draft out of UCLA.

READING STARTER: LHP Jesse Biddle makes his 24th start of the season for the Fightin Phils and second against the B-Mets. He failed to get out of the first inning in his previous start against Binghamton on July 23. He recorded two outs, gave up four runs on three hits, and walked three in a losing effort. His last win came on July 18 against Portland. In his last start, he got a no-decision against Harrisburg on August 8. He threw six shutout innings and gave up three hits. He walked a season-high seven in Harrisburg's 4-1 win. Biddle was drafted by the Phillies in the first round of the 2010 draft out of HS (PA).

BACK FROM THE DL: In seven games since returning from the DL, Cory Vaughn is 9-for-24 with two doubles, three home runs, 11 RBI, and five runs scored. Vaughn has had two four-RBI games since returning, and now has 42 RBI in 2013. He missed 38 games on the disabled list from June 8 - July 23 with a right elbow strain.

SUCCESS AGAINST READING: Tuesday begins the second and final series against Reading. In the first series from July 22-24 at NYSEG Stadium, Binghamton won two of the three games. Darrell Ceciliani went 7-for-10 in that series with two doubles and an RBI. As a team, Binghamton his .309 and scored 16 runs. On the mound, Binghamton gave up eight runs. In 6.2 innings, the B-Met bullpen did not allow an earned run.

OH, OH IT'S MAGIC: Binghamton's magic number to clinch a playoff spot sits at 5. Their magic number to secure the Eastern Division is at 11. The B-Mets have not made the postseason since 2004 nor won a division title since 2000.

AUGUST RESURGENCE: After hitting just .183 in July, B-Mets outfielder Travis Taijeron has batted .343 (12-for-35) in August. The Californian has racked up five doubles and three home runs in ten games. He collected just seven extra-base hits in 21 games in July. Of his 43 hits as a B-Met, 25 of them have been for extra bases.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Mark Cohoon has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of August 5-11. Cohoon won obth of his starts during the stretch, allowing one earned run over 13.0 innings of work. He struck out six, walked two and surrendered just nine hits in victories over the Altoona Curve and Erie SeaWolves.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets continue their three-game series against Reading on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM, as Binghamton sends LHP Darin Gorski to the mound against RHP Brody Colvin.
