(CHARLESTON, W. Va.) Delino DeShields Jr. set a new Lexington Legends record for stolen bases in a season and also drove in two runs as the Legends defeated the West Virginia Power 5-2 Saturday night.

West Virginia took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a leadoff triple by Alen Hanson and a ground out by Willy Garcia.

The Legends answered with three runs in the top of the second, aided by four walks from West Virginia starter Ryan Hafner. Walks to Mike Kvasnicka, Jay Austin and Chan Jong Moon loaded the bases with one out, and a free pass to Luis Alvarez forced in the tying run. DeShields then lined a single down the right field line, scoring Austin and Moon to give the Legends a 3-1 lead.

Alvarez led off the top of the fourth with a home run to make the score 4-1. It was Alvarez' first hit as a Legend. He joined the team June 15 from extended spring training and was playing in his second game.

The Power cut the lead to two with a run in the bottom of the fourth on back-to-back doubles by Francisco Aponte and Eric Avila.

The Legends added their final run in the eighth inning when Brandon Meredith drew a walk with the bases loaded.

DeShields stole second base in the sixth inning and again in the eighth to reach 49 for the season, one more than the team single-season mark set by Josh Anderson in 2004.

Jonas Dufek (5-1) worked the first six innings and got the win. He is now 4-0 in the month of June. Murilo Gouvea pitched the seventh and eighth, and got out of a bases-loaded no jam in the eighth. He struck out Jose Osuna, and right fielder Mike Kvasnicka made a diving catch on a line drive hit by Aponte. Kvasnicka threw to second base to double off Chris Lashmet to end the inning.
