Savannah Sand Gnats News Release
Savannah, GA - In a battle of hard-throwing 19-year old right-handers, the Augusta GreenJackets' Kyle Crick was one run better than the Savannah Sand Gnats' Michael Fulmer in a 1-0 Augusta win Saturday at Historic Grayson Stadium. Fulmer (#44 overall) was picked five spots ahead of Crick (#49) in the supplemental first round of the 2011 Major League Baseball amateur draft. Fulmer struck out a career-high eight batters in his six innings of work.
The GreenJackets (2-1/34-38) scored the game's only run in the top of the first inning. With two outs and the bases empty, LF Shawn Payne drew a walk and then scored on 1B Ben Thomas' RBI double up the right-center field gap. Fulmer allowed just one more hit, a single into right field by Thomas in the sixth.
Crick did not allow a hit until LF ZeErika McQueen doubled with one out in the fifth inning. He walked four and struck out eight in his six innings of work to earn his third win of 2012.
Savannah DH Cam Maron was 2-for-4 with a clean single to centerfield in the sixth and an infield single in the ninth inning to extend his hitting streak to 16 straight games. He is tied for the second-longest streak in the South Atlantic League in 2012 and is one away from tying Mark Haddow of Kannapolis for the longest in the League.
The Gnats (1-2/42-28) had at least one runner on base in seven of the game's nine innings, but only one runner reached second base, and none touched third.
The crowd of 2,832 was the Gnats' third-straight above 2,800 during the team's homestand.
Savannah will send LHP Jimmy Fuller (NR), who missed the entire 2011 season due to injury, to the mound Sunday against Augusta LHP Adalberto Mejia (4-4, 5.73). First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 pm and the gates to Historic Grayson Stadium will open at 1 pm. The radio broadcast, presented by Subway, begins on News/Talk 630 and online at 1:45 pm.

The first of two Bark in the Park dates for the 2012 season is scheduled for Sunday, when all fans are invited to bring their dogs to Historic Grayson Stadium. All dogs must be kept on leash at all times and must have proof of up-to-date rabies shots in order to enter the stadium.
