Asheville Tourists News Release

The Asheville Tourists were looking for an answer to their four-game losing streak on Saturday night, but the Rome Braves outplayed the home team once again; winning 9-3 at McCormick Field. Tyler Anderson suffered his second consecutive defeat and the Tourists could not sustain anything offensively.

After the first two innings went by without any scoring, Rome tallied three runs in the top of the third. The Braves used three doubles in the frame to jump in front and they never looked back. Jared Simon did throw out Will Skinner at home plate to end the inning.

Asheville managed one in the fourth on Simon's RBI ground-out, but the Braves answered in a big way the very next inning. Skinner and Chase Anselment hit back-to-back Home Runs off Rafael Suarez to give the visitors a 5-1 advantage.

The Tourists managed to plate one in the bottom of the fifth on Sam Mende's two-out RBI single to right.

The visitors scored once more off Suarez in the sixth and then added three more in the seventh. Tony Mueller singled home a pair with two-outs and then scored on a Tourists error; making it 9-2. Jose Rivera gave the Tourists fans a little something to cheer about with an RBI single in the eighth.

Ryan Weber earned the win for Rome; their third starting pitcher to earn a victory in the past three games. Anselment and Elmer Reyes finished the game 3-for-4 as Rome outhit Asheville 14-6.

The Tourists will look to avoid being swept with tomorrow's series finale scheduled for 2:05pm.
