Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

The first time Cedar Rapids played Des Moines they had issues producing offensive pressure. In the rematch the RoughRiders created scoring chances early and often and buried their chances to come away with a 5-1 victory.

The RoughRiders struck on the first shot of the game just 22 seconds in as Luke Morgan scored a tap in goal from in tight on a feed from Cal Burke and quickly got the home Halloween crowd into the game. The Buccaneers answered with pressure getting the next six shots on goal but couldn't beat Ben Blacker in the first period and Justin Cole doubled Cedar Rapids' lead when he scored at 7:52 of the period from Burke and Morgan who both had their second point of the period. The RoughRiders were riding high going into the locker room up 2-0 after one period.

Buccaneer goalie Jan Ruzicka was sharp in the second period making 12 saves including a few from close range but Cedar Rapids' Jacob Hayhurst won an offensive faceoff cleanly to the stick of defenseman David Nemecek who beat Ruzicka low blocker-side for the lone goal of the second period.

RoughRider Matt Filipe scored at the 5:51 mark of the third period and Cedar Rapids goaltender Ben Blacker looked like he may post a shutout on the evening until Justin Howell from behind the goal line threw a pass out front to David Keefer who slammed it home at 9:42 of the third period for Des Moines' lone goal of the game. Jack Achan scored the final goal of the game at 10:53 of the period on the power play to give Cedar Rapids a 5-1 victory.

Up next for Des Moines are a couple of home games against the Fargo Force on Friday, November 6th and Saturday, November 7th.
