Sioux Falls Stampede News Release
Sioux Falls, SD-It was Halloween night and the goblins and ghosts were out to get the Herd as Youngstown rolled past the Stampede 8-3 before 4,230 fans at the PREMIER Center. The loss ended the Stampede's four game home winning streak and dropped the club to 6-5-0 overall. Youngstown scored four times in the third period to pull away from the Herd who fell behind just seconds into the game and were never able to recover. Collin Peters, Alex Stevens and Daniel Warpecha scored goals while Ales Stezka stopped 25 shots in goal. The Herd ended the weekend with a split with the Phantoms after topping them 4-3 on Friday.
The game had an odd start with Youngstown scoring just 52 seconds into the game. Kris Myllari dumped the puck into the Stampede zone and bounced onto the stick of Stampede goaltender Ales Stezka. Stezka made the stop and tried to bring the puck under his glove, but it squirted through his legs and into the net to give the Phantoms an early 1-0 lead. The Stampede would respond at 7:09 when Parker Tuomie skated down the left wing side and sent a perfect pass into the slot for Collin Peters who tapped it past Youngstown goaltender Ryan Bednard. The celebration would be short lived however as the Phantoms struck back just over a minute later on a nice wrist shot from James Winkler that found the back of the net to give Youngstown a 2-1 edge after one period. Sioux Falls outshot the Phantoms 12-11 in the period.
The Phantoms started the second period on the power play and it took them all but eight seconds to cash in as Chase Pearson sent a pass over to Alex Esposito who slapped the puck past Stezka to make it a 3-1 game. Sioux Falls drew back within a goal at 8:16 when Alex Stevens blasted a shot from the left point through traffic into the upper left hand corner of the net for his first career USHL goal. It appeared the Herd would head into the locker room down by just a goal, but with just nine seconds left in the period the game took a turn for the worse as Cameron Morrison scored to give the Phantoms a 4-2 edge into the locker room. Youngstown outshot the Herd 10-9 in the period.
The third period belonged all to the Phantoms who would score four times en route to their 8-3 victory over the Stampede. Yushiroh Hirano scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season in the period while Patrick Kramer and Connor Moore all scored to lift the Phantoms to victory. The Stampede's Daniel Warpecha scored in the final seconds for his second of the year, but that would be all the offense the Stampede would muster in the third.
Youngstown outshot the Herd 33-31 on the night and finished 1-for-3 on the power play while the Stampede were 0-for-1.
The Stampede return to action this Friday when they host the Waterloo Black Hawks at 7:05 PM inside the PREMIER Center. It is also "Pink in the Rink Night," presented by Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital. The ice will be pink and players will be wearing special pink jerseys that will be made available through a raffle during the game with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society. Tickets are available through the KELOLAND Box Office or contact the Stampede office at 336-6060.
