U.S. National U17 Team Edges Canada Red, 4-3, in Regulation

DAWSON CREEK, British Columbia - The U.S. National Under-17 Team edged Canada Red, 4-3, in regulation tonight during a pre-tournament contest, leading into the 2015 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge (Nov. 1-7). Team USA received goals from four different players, while both U.S. goaltenders, Adam Scheel (Lakewood, Ohio) and Dylan St. Cyr (Northville, Mich.), split time in net for tonight's victory.

Team USA converted a power-play chance in the opening six minutes of the first frame when Grand Mismash (Edina, Minn.) slid a pass out of the right offensive corner, along the boards to Jacob Tortora (Victor, N.Y.) who fed it to David Farrance (Victor, N.Y.) at the right point. Farrance skated to the center point and ripped a shot past Canada Red's Michael DiPietro to open scoring.

A more than three minutes later, Canada Red netted the equalizer.

The U.S. retook the lead around the midway point of the period when Randy Hernandez (Miami, Fla.) potted a goal, just after the expiration of a U.S. power play.

Canada Red again pulled even, making it a 2-2 game, at 3:33 of the middle stanza.

About two minutes later, alone in the front of the Canada net, Scott Reedy (Prior Lake, Minn.) stickhandled forehand to backhand and lifted the puck over the Canada goaltender for the go-ahead marker.

At 12:17 of the second period, Canada answered to tie the game at three.

Again on the power play, a Farrance point shot pinballed through net-front traffic and found its way to Sean Dhooghe (Aurora, Ill.) stationed to the left of the Canada net for an easy goal.

The back-and-forth play continued throughout the third period, with both teams getting quality scoring chances. Canada Red made a final push, pulling the goaltender in the final minute of the frame; however, Dhooghe's second-period goal would stand as the game winner for the 4-3 final score.

Scheel started in net for Team USA, playing the opening 29:06 and stopping 9-of-11 shots he faced. St. Cyr, stepping a little less than midway through the game, stopped 14-of-15 Canada shots.
