Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors, official ECHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, have announced that the Iowa Chops (AHL) have reassigned LW Bobby Bolt and D Andrew Thomas to Bakersfield. Additionally, the Manitoba Moose (AHL) have reassigned LW Mark Derlago (der-LAY-goh) to Bakersfield.
Derlago, 22, spent his record-breaking rookie season last year with the Condors, when he led the team and all ECHL rookies with 39 goals. He also registered 18 assists to finish the year with 57 points, fourth on the team, in 68 games, establishing Condors rookie records in goals and points. He tied a Condors record by rattling off a seven-game goal-scoring streak from Jan. 12 - Jan. 29, and also scored back-to-back hat tricks on Feb. 5 (when he became the first player in club history to score four goals on home ice) and Feb. 8. He was named the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for Feb. 4 - 10 and runner-up for the CCM Vector ECHL Rookie of the Month for January. Derlago's efforts were recognized with a Professional Tryout Contract from the Manitoba Moose (AHL) in late March. He scored five points (2g-3a) in four games with Manitoba before rejoining the Condors for the end of the season.
Prior to turning pro, the 5-foot-11-inch, 197-pound Brandon, Manitoba, native spent four campaigns in the Western Hockey League with the Brandon Wheat Kings from 2003-07, though he missed the entire 2004-05 season due to a broken neck sustained during a preseason game. Derlago worked back from the injury to lead the team with 28 goals in 2005-06 and finished second with 53 points. The following season, he led the league with 46 goals, tied for first with 24 power-play goals, and ranked 10th with 81 points, earning team MVP honors for the second consecutive season.
Bolt, 21, spent the majority of last season, his first full year in the pros, with the Augusta Lynx (ECHL). He scored 26 points (15g-11a) and racked up 45 PIM in 62 games with Augusta, while also playing four games with the Portland Pirates in the American Hockey League. He debuted as a pro in 2006-07 with Portland, scoring two points (1g-1a) in five games after completing a four-year junior career that season.
Before turning pro, the 6-foot-3-inch, 219-pound native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, played three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Kingston Frontenac and part of one campaign with the London Knights. With Kingston, Bolt tallied 90 points (38g-52a) and 251 PIM in 197 games from 2004-07. In 2006-07, he finished sixth on Kingston in scoring with 50 points (22g-28a) and tied for the team lead with six assists in five playoff games. Bolt was drafted by Anaheim in the fifth round (127 overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Thomas, 22, spent the last four years playing college hockey at the University of Denver (NCAA). From 2004-08, Thomas skated in 159 games for the Pioneers, totaling 26 points (6g-20a) and 278 PIM. In each of his four campaigns, Thomas finished in the top three on the team in penalty minutes, and ranks 8th on Denver's all-time penalty minutes list.
The 6-foot-2-inch, 215-pound Bow, New Hampshire, native earned All-WCHA Academic Team honors as a sophomore, junior and senior, while also earning All-WCHA Scholar Athlete honors and being named to the Wells Fargo Denver Cup all-tournament team last year. Prior to attending Denver, Thomas helped the Waterloo Black Hawks to the United States Hockey League's Clark Cup Championship in his one season of junior hockey in 2003-04.
