Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Johnstown, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have reassigned defenseman Jon Landry to the team from the Syracuse Crunch (ECHL).

Landry, 24, is a second-year professional from Lexington, Massachusetts. He was signed as a free agent by Columbus on March 19, 2007. Last season, Landry skated in 18 games with the Elmira Jackals where he had 12 points (2G, 10A). His season was shortened when Landry injured his leg in the Jackals' team bus crash last November 30.

Prior to turning professional, Landry played four seasons at Holy Cross College from 2003-07. His best season was as a junior in 2005-06 when he led all Crusader defensemen in scoring with 29 points (9G, 20A) in 38 games. The 6'2, 190-pound defender was named to the NCAA West Regional All-Tournament team in 2006, and in 2007 was awarded the Atlantic Hockey Best Defenseman award.

Landry and his Holy Cross teammates were a part of a historic victory when they upset the Minnesota Golden Gophers 4-3 in overtime in the 2006 NCAA West Regional. It was the Crusaders' first NCAA postseason victory, and the first time a No. 4 seed beat a No. 1 seed since the tournament expanded to 16 teams. Landry had two assists in that game, including the game-tying goal at 7:53 of the third period.

Mark your calendars! The Chiefs open their 2008-09 home schedule on Saturday, October 18 at 7:05 against the Wheeling Nailers, and you won't want to miss a minute of the action.
