Oilers Prospect David Rohlfs Returns

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, the proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons, announced the Oilers have assigned right wing David Rohlfs (WRALL-fs) to the Thunder from Springfield.

The Thunder training camp roster currently stands at 24 players, including four goaltenders and 20 skaters (8 defensemen, 12 forwards).

Rolhfs, 24, was selected in the fifth round (154th overall) by the Oilers in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and spent time in 2007 and 2008 NHL training camp with the Oilers. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound right wing was tied for second on the Thunder last season with 16 goals and scored 32 points (16g-16a) in 65 games, additionally posting 41 penalty minutes in his rookie season.

Rohlfs, who appeared in two Kelly Cup Playoff games last season for Stockton, earned a mid-season call-up to Springfield last season and appeared in two AHL games.

Rohlfs spent four years (2003-07) of his college hockey career at national power University of Michigan (NCAA), helping guide the Wolverines to an NCAA Frozen Four tournament appearance in four consecutive seasons while scoring 69 points (31g-38a) and posting a career +56 rating in 158 games with Michigan. The Northville, Mich. native scored 34 points (17g-17a) in 41 games as a 2006-07 senior, achieving career highs in all scoring categories while leading the program with a +33 rating and finishing as a finalist for the CCHA conference's Best Defensive Forward.

The preseason schedule launches on Thursday, Oct. 9 when the Thunder faces the Fresno Falcons, starting at 7:00 p.m. from Stockton Arena. Stockton and Fresno will meet 10 times during the 2008-09 regular season, beginning with "Opening Night" on Saturday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Stockton Arena.

The Thunder was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of San Joaquin Magazine, has led the ECHL in attendance for three consecutive seasons and drew 239,337 fans to Stockton Arena in 2007-08.
