Falcons Receive Six Players from AHL

FRESNO, CALIF. - The Fresno Falcons announced today that the team has received six players from American Hockey League teams.

Left wing Jarrett Konkle returns for his second season with the Falcons after being released by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Goaltender Ryan Nie, defenseman Kenny MacAulay, and center Judd Blackwater have all been released by the Rockford Ice Hogs, and will report to Fresno.

Additionally, the Falcons have received two players on loan from Rockford: left wings Peter MacArthur and Mike Radja.

MacArthur enters his first professional campaign after completing his collegiate career at Boston University. The 23-year-old scored 64 goals and added 83 assists for 147 points in 159 career games with the Terriers, whom he led in both goals and points in his final two years, and in points as a sophomore. MacArthur served as the team captain last year, and made his professional debut at the end of the season, appearing in nine games with Bridgeport.

Radja joins the Falcons fresh off a career at the University of New Hampshire, where he played in 149 games, posting 54 goals and 63 assists for 117 points. As a senior, he led the Wildcats in goals, and finished second in points in both his junior and senior seasons. Last year, he scored 43 points in 36 games on his way to being named a First Team All-American and to the Hockey East First Team. Radja appeared in two games with the AHL's Syracuse Crunch at the end of last season, tallying three assists.

The Falcons play a pair of pre-season games against the Stockton Thunder this week. The two teams meet at Stockton Arena on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. before returning to Fresno for a 7:00 p.m. face-off on Saturday at Gateway Ice Center. Falcons' season-ticket holders receive free admission to this game, while all other fans can purchase tickets at the door for $5 based on availability.

The Falcons open the 2008-09 season on the road, taking on the Stockton Thunder on Saturday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m.

Opening Night 2008 at Selland Arena is set for Friday, October 24, when the Falcons host their arch-rivals, the Bakersfield Condors, at 7:35 p.m. Season Ticket packages start at just $432, and are now available by calling the Falcons at (559) 485-7825.

Began in 1988-89 with five teams playing in four states, the Premier 'AA' Hockey League has grown into a coast-to-coast league that will have 23 teams in 16 states and British Columbia playing 828 games from Oct. 17, 2008 to Apr. 4, 2009. Eighteen of the 23 teams have played at least five years in their current city.

The third-longest tenured professional hockey league behind only the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League, the ECHL averaged 4,174 per game last season, marking the fourth year in row and the 16th time in the last 18 years that the league has averaged over 4,000 fans. The league has drawn over four million fans each of the last five years and 11 times in the past 12 seasons.
