Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
HICKORY, N.C. (July 31, 2012) -- Kannapolis second baseman Joey DeMichele drove in four runs to push the Intimidators past the Hickory Crawdads, 6-1, on Tuesday night at L.P. Frans Stadium.
DeMichele broke a tie game with his first home run with Class A Kannapolis, a no-doubter to right field with two outs in the fifth inning, giving the Intimidators a 2-1 lead. The White Sox third round pick from the June 2012 draft -- and the first member of his draft class to reach Kannapolis -- added a two-run double in the sixth inning to put the Intimidators ahead, 6-1. He finished the game 3- for-5 with a double, a home run and a career-high four RBI.
Intimidators starter Chris Devenski (6-5) turned in his first quality start, working a career-long seven innings, allowing a run on three hits while striking out two and walking four. Devenski leads the Intimidators in wins.
In his first game back from the disabled list, Mark Haddow announced his return to the Intimidators active roster with a two-run home run (6) to centerfield in the fifth inning, chasing Hickory starter Nick Martinez from the game. Martinez (5-6) took the loss, giving up four runs over 4 and 2/3 innings.
Dustin Umberger worked two scoreless, hitless innings to finish the game for Kannapolis, striking out a batter and walking one.
Hickory's Zach Cone led off the bottom of the second inning with his team-leading 14th home run and sixth against Kannapolis for an early 1-0 lead.
The Intimidators responded in the top of the third. Leighton Pangilinan doubled to open the frame and moved to third on a Joe De Pinto single. Two batters later, DeMichele dropped a ball into centerfield to score Pangilinan and tie the game, 1-1.
The Crawdads loaded the bases against Kannapolis with one out in the fourth, but Devenski induced a Trever Adams ground ball up the middle, giving shortstop Chris Curley a chance to start a 6-3 double play to end the inning.
Kannapolis and Hickory play game three of this four-game series on Wednesday as the Intimidators' RHP Myles Jaye (3-7, 6.14) faces Crawdads starter RHP Jerad Eickhoff. The Intimidators return to CMC- NorthEast Stadium on August 3 for a four-game series against the Rome Braves.
