Rome, GA - The Rome Braves defeated the Augusta GreenJackets 6-5 thanks to a two out ninth inning single by Kyle Kubitza. It was Rome's ninth consecutive victory.

Augusta got out to an early 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and third innings. Augusta's starter, Clayton Blackburn, slowed the Rome offense in his six innings of work scattering six hits and one run. That one run came in the sixth when William Beckwith scored on a Kyle Kubitza ground out. The GreenJackets took a 3-1 lead in the seventh on an RBI triple by Devin Harris. After an Augusta pitching change, the Rome offense came alive in the seventh with back to back home runs. Ross Heffley (1) drove a three run shot to left giving Rome the 4-3 edge. William Beckwith (13) then launched a solo home run clearing the centerfield wall for the 5-3 score.

Even with the Braves' two run lead in the ninth, Augusta wasn't ready to roll over as Shawn Payne hit a two RBI single to tie the game at 5-5. In the bottom of the ninth and Beckwith at second with two outs, Kubitza drove a single to center to score the winning run and give the Braves the walk off win.

David Peterson (2-0) came on in relief to get the win for Rome. Kyle Vazquez (3-3) got the loss for Augusta.

The Braves face the GreenJackets in game three of the series tomorrow at 7p.m. For ticket information, contact the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
