Demarski announces retirement

GREENVILLE, SC â The Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL have announced that MATT DEMARSKI (F) has announced his retirement after six professional seasons. Demarski has been a part of the Grrrowl for the past two seasons after two seasons with the Florida Everblades, including an All-Star selection in the 2001 ECHL All-Star Game.
DEMARSKI, a Winnipeg, Manitoba native, played in 364 professional games (347 regular season, 18 playoff). Matt tallied 182 goals and 145 assists for a total of 327 points, giving him .94 points per game during his career. He had three seasons with 30+ goals, and two seasons with 60+ points, including the 2002-03 season with the Grrrowl when he totaled 63 points (25G, 38A).
"This is a tough day for Matt and for the Grrrowl organization", stated John Marks, Head Coach and VP of Hockey Operations for the Grrrowl. "Matt has been a top tier player in this league for 6 years and has handled himself professionally in every phase of the profession. We wish him the best as he moves into the next phase of his life, and will continue to count him as a friend and leader in this program."
Demarski played in three games early in the 2003-04 season before undergoing back surgery that kept him out of action until January 3, 2004, allowing him to compete in only 26 of the 53 games this season for the Grrrowl.
In another transaction, Troy Ilijow has been activated from the injured reserve list.
The Grrrowl finish a 5-game home stand with a game at the BI-LO Center this Friday (2/27 vs. Charlotte) and Saturday night (2/28 vs. Gwinnett) â both 7:05pm starts. Greenville will travel to Gwinnett to face the Gladiators on Sunday afternoon (4:05pm start). Greenville Grrrowl single-game tickets, mini-plans and flex packs are on sale now.
