ZOOperstars & Leap Year Jersey Auction This Weekend
February 26, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. â The Bakersfield Condors will return home from a two-week, seven-game road trip this Saturday when they host the rival Las Vegas Wranglers at Centennial Garden at 7:00pm. They also take the ice at 2:00pm on Sunday to welcome the South Carolina Stingrays to town. Doors open for both games one hour prior to game time.
Saturday's match features the return of the ZOOperstars to Bakersfield, sponsored by Bright House Networks, KBID 1350 and Subway. The ZOOperstars are wacky animal mascot take-offs of famous athletes. This season, Mario Lemule, Mia Hammster, Shaquille O'Seal, Jeff Gordog and Derek Cheetah will be visiting the Garden. They have quickly become one of the most popular entertainment acts around, and come to Bakersfield for the fifth straight season.
Saturday night also features several special ticket opportunities. It's a Bright House Networks Family Night for all subscribers, who can purchase tickets for just $5 a piece by presenting their Bright House Networks coupon included in their latest monthly bill. Finally, there's a good reason to open your bills! It's also a Condors Kids Club Night, in which all members can receive complimentary admission to the game by showing their Membership ID at the box office. Bright House Networks, the Bakersfield Californian, Cold Stone Creameries and Kern Schools Federal Credit Union sponsor the Kids Club. Subway Discount Night is Saturday, as well. Fans can purchase 2-for-1 admission with a proof-of-purchase from any local Bakersfield Subway location.
The match on Sunday against the Stingrays starts at a special 2:00pm start time, and wraps up a three-game weekend and 16-game month for the Condors. That day, February 29th, is of course, Leap Year Day, and the Condors will celebrate with commemorative Leap Year jerseys, sponsored by KLLY 95.3 and O'Leary's Office Products. Bakersfield's premier auction company, PAX (Pacific Auction Exchange) will auction off the jerseys after the game. Funds from the auction will be donated to CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), a non-profit organization that helps provide legal council and representation to disadvantaged or abused children in court. During the game, everyone in attendance will have the opportunity to win one of five to be raffled off.
As a tribute to this special day, anyone born on Leap Year may enjoy the game from a rinkside seat (a $17 value), compliments of the Condors. It's tough enough to only celebrate your birthday once every four years; the Condors feel your pain.
Both games this weekend will be televised on Bright House Networks, Ch. 21, live and tape delayed the following day. Saturday's game will be re-broadcast at 10:00am on Sunday, and that day's game will air again in primetime on Monday night at 7:00pm.
All Condors games, home and away, can be heard on KGEO AM 1230, and online at www.bakersfieldcondors.com. "Condors Countdown" starts 15 minutes prior to game time, with Kevin Bartl handling the play-by-play. Condors Legend Kevin Barrett joins the home broadcasts as color commentator.
Individual seats are on sale now, and may be purchased through the Centennial Garden box office, which opens at 10:00am Monday through Saturday and this Sunday with the early start time. Tickets may also be purchased by phone through at 322-2525, online at www.ticketmaster.com or at any Ticketmaster location.
