Altoona Curve News Release
NORWICH, CT - Jason Delaney singled home Hector Gimenez in the top of the 10th inning and the Altoona Curve were able to walk away with a 3-2 extra-inning victory over the Connecticut Defenders (AA - San Francisco) on Sunday afternoon at Dodd Stadium.
Delaney singled home Gimenez in the 10th for the second time during Sunday's game. The Altoona Curve were able to jump out to a early 1-0 edge using the same offensive formula. Delaney and Gimenez each enjoyed two-hit days for the Curve.
Altoona was trailing 2-1 in the top of the seventh inning but were able to draw even as Jonel Pacheco hit a solo home run to the opposite field to knot the score, 2-2. Both teams would stay deadlocked before Delaney's heroics in the top of the 10th.
Connecticut plated single runs in each the second and fifth inning off of Altoona starter Mike Crotta who walked away with a no-decision, allowing eight hits of 5.0 innings of work.
The Altoona Curve bullpen proceeded to toss 4.0 shutout innings. The combination of Jeff Sues (2.0 scoreless) and Sean Smith (3-1) who also tossed a pair of shutout innings were able to quiet Connecticut bats.
The Altoona Curve will enjoy a scheduled off day on Monday and return to action when they open a six-game homestand at Blair County Ballpark on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. as they welcome in the New Britain Rock Cats (AA - Minnesota). Highlighting the homestand will be a pair of fireworks shows a Webkinz Giveaway to the first 2,000 fans 14 and under and an appearance by the lovable Zooperstars. Great seats for the entire six-game homestand are still available and can be obtained by calling 877-99-CURVE, online at AltoonaCurve.com or in person at the Blair County Ballpark box office during normal business hours.
NOTES: OF Jose Tabata did not appear in his fourth-straight game and may not for the next few days as a precaution as he attempts to recover from a right hamstring strain that sidelined him on the disabled list for 37 days...UTL Hector Gimenez has recorded hits in 14 of his last 17 games, including 8 of his last nine...The series victory for Altoona over Connecticut was just the third series victory for the Curve this entire season.
