
Trenton Falls to Binghamton

(Trenton, NJ)- Binghamton had a six-run fifth inning and went on for a 7-1 win over Trenton on Sunday afternoon from Waterfront Park. Trenton and Binghamton split their four-game series.
Binghamton (26-36) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. With Right fielder Carl Loadenthal at third base and two outs, Second baseman Ruben Tejada connected on an RBI infield single off of Thunder Starting Pitcher Wilkin De La Rosa (3-4). The Mets extended the lead to 7-0 in the fifth inning with six runs. All the runs came with two outs, as six straight Binghamton batters reached with two outs. With Shortstop Jose Coronado on first base and two outs, Binghamton First baseman Nick Evans connected on an RBI double to plate Coronado and make it 2-0. After walks to Catcher Josh Thole and Designated Hitter Lucas Duda, De La Rosa was replaced by Thunder Reliever Eric Wordekemper. Third Baseman Shawn Bowman picked up an RBI single off of Wordekemper to extend the lead to 3-0. Loadenthal followed with a three-run triple to increase the lead to 6-0. Left fielder Josh Petersen capped off the scoring with an RBI triple. Loadenthal went 2 x 3 with two runs and three RBI in the win.
Trenton (32-20) scored its lone run in the eighth inning on an RBI single by Designated Hitter Chris Malec. He went 2 x 3 with a walk in the loss. Center fielder Richie Robnett and Shortstop Eduardo Nunez each had two hits as well.
Binghamton Reliever Edgar Alfonso (4-2) earned the win in relief of Binghamton Starting Pitcher Edgar Ramirez. Alfonso and Ramirez each threw three shutout innings. De La Rosa allowed five hits and five runs in 4 2/3 innings to take the loss. He struck out three and walked three. Thunder Reliever Michael Dunn tossed three shutout innings in the loss.
Trenton has a day off on Monday, before opening up a three-game series with the Connecticut Defenders (Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants) on Tuesday night. RHP Zach McAllister (5-2, 1.60) will start for Trenton against Connecticut RHP Tim Alderson (2-1, 2.20).
