New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Erie, PA- Brian Jeroloman ripped a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning, and Todd Donovan had a single and a run scored, but Alfredo Figaro struck out 10 batters over 7.1 innings and Casper Wells and Max Leon each supported him with home runs in the Erie SeaWolves' 7-2 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at Jerry Uht Park on Sunday afternoon
Erie (35-27) went in front 1-0 in the bottom of the second against losing pitcher Brandon Magee when Cale Iorg (1-for-3, RBI, R, SB, BB) walked, stole second base and scored on a sharp single up the middle from Deik Scram (2-for-4, RBI).
The SeaWolves struck again with three runs in the bottom of the third, stringing together four consecutive two-out hits. Wells (2-for-4, HR, 2B) started the uprising with a solo homer, his third. Ryan Strieby (1-for-3, BB, R) singled and scored on Alex Avila's double into the right-centerfield gap for a 3-0 lead. Iorg made it 4-0 with an RBI single to center, allowing Avila (1-for-4, 2B, RBI, R) to score.
Erie chased Magee in the fourth when Leon (2-for-3, HR, 2B, BB, 2 R) doubled and scored on Shawn Roof's single to center for a 5-0 lead. The SeaWolves tacked on an unearned run on Mike Holliman' sacrifice fly off Bubbie Buzachero for a 6-0 advantage.
Magee (3-4) was reached for six runs -five earned- on seven hits in three-plus innings. The right-hander struck out two and walked three.
Leading off the home half of the sixth, Leon jolted Buzachero's 2-0 pitch over the right-centerfield wall for his seventh homer, a solo blast that gave the SeaWolves a 7-0 lead.
Alfredo Figaro was masterful for Erie, retiring the first 11 batters he faced and 17 of the first 18 Fisher Cats' hitters before New Hampshire (28-35) spoiled his shutout bid in the top of the seventh when Donovan (1-for-4, R) singled and Jeroloman (1-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) belted his third home run of the season, reducing Erie's lead to 7-2.
Figaro (5-2) allowed three hits and walked one in earning the win, which gave Erie the series victory over New Hampshire, the Fisher Cats' eighth straight series loss.
Following an off day on Monday, the Fisher Cats return to Merchantsauto.com Stadium to open a four-game series against the Akron Aeros, Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, Tuesday night at 7:05pm.
