Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
Charleston, WV -The West Virginia Power would fall in the opening game with the Delmarva ShoreBirds by a final score of 7-5. The ShoreBirds would knock three homers and come out on the winning end.
West Virginia took an advantage in their half of the third inning. On just their second hit of the game, Albert Baur would drive the twelfth pitch of the at bat against Jhon Peluffo into right field. Two runs scored on the double and the Power grabbed a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the sixth, after starter James Marvel exited with five shutout innings, would take their first lead of the game. Gerrion Grim launched a three-run homer to right off Blake Cederlind. Grim's ninth long ball of the year gave the ShoreBirds a 3-2 lead.
The Power responded in their half of the sixth. Trae Arbet ripped a double into right to drive in two more. West Virginia regained the lead quickly 4-3. That lead however relinquished one more time.
Top of the seventh for the Delmarva club saw two more home runs. Chris Clare lifted a two run shot and Collin Woody went deep for a solo homer. Four runs ultimately came across in the frame against Cederlind. The reliever allowed all seven runs in the game.
West Virginia was able to get a run home in the ninth but could not make a comeback. The Power fell in the opener 7-5. Cederlind (2-1) was handed the loss while Travis Seabrooke (3-4) vultured the win.
