Major League Soccer announced Monday that Toronto FC forward Jermain Defoe has been named MLS Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 2.

Defoe made his Toronto FC and MLS debut last Saturday in Seattle, scoring a pair of goals to lead Toronto FC to a 2-1 victory over the Sounders FC.

With the two goals in Seattle, Defoe has continued his streak of scoring in his debut with a new club (West Ham United in 2000, AFC Bournemouth in 2000, Tottenham Hotspur F.C. in 2004, Portsmouth F.C. in 2008, Toronto FC in 2014).

Toronto FC will face D.C. United on Saturday, March 22 at 4:30 p.m. ET in the club's 2014 home opening match at BMO Field. The match will be broadcasted live on TSN and TSN Radio 1050 AM.
