Sporting Kansas City News Release
Sporting Kansas City concludes a stretch of five games in 15 days to open the 2014 season this week as the team travels to Mexico City for Wednesday's CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal before returning home to host the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday.
Following a 1-0 victory in the home leg last week, Sporting KC has the advantage on aggregate entering the rematch with Liga MX leaders Cruz Azul in the decisive second leg at 9 p.m. CT on Wednesday at Estadio Azul in Mexico City. The match will be nationally televised on FOX Sports 2 (English) and Galavision (Spanish), and Johnny's Tavern in the KC Power and Light District will be hosting the team's official watch party featuring Boulevard draft specials and the "Blue Believer" signature cocktail.
On Saturday, Sporting Kansas City welcomes San Jose in week 3 of Major League Soccer's regular season. The Earthquakes will also be coming off a mid-week match in Mexico as Manager Mark Watson's side is tasked with taking on Toluca in their CCL quarterfinal (1-1 on aggregate) at 7 p.m. CT on Wednesday.
A limited number of tickets are available for Saturday's match at Sporting Park via Ticketmaster.com and the first 10,000 fans will receive Sporting KC flags, courtesy of match sponsor H&R Block. The cross-conference clash will air live locally on KMCI-TV (38 the Spot), across the Midwest on the Sporting KC Television Network and in Spanish on La Gran D 1340 AM.
Sporting Kansas City will train at 10 a.m. CT on Monday, Tuesday and Friday at the Swope Soccer Village (6310 Lewis Rd.) in Kansas City, MO. Players and coaches will be available for interviews immediately afterward and all media are encouraged to attend for photo and video opportunities.
The Sporting KC Show will air from 7-8 p.m. CT on Tuesday on Sports Radio 810 WHB with hosts Callum Williams and Andy Edwards. Fans can join the discussion by calling 913-3-810-810 and listen live on 810 AM, 810whb.com or through the station's free mobile app.
Sporting Kansas City has advanced to the round of 16 in KCsourcelink.com's Battle of the Brands and is matched up against Grade A Tree Care for a berth in the quarterfinals. Voting opened Monday morning and will continue online through 4 p.m. CT on Tuesday.
On Friday, Sporting Kansas City radio partner 96.5 the Buzz will host a "Kegs & Eggs" event at the Tank Room (1813 Grand) in Kansas City, MO featuring Austin-based band Ume. The MLS Cup trophy will be on display and the Roasterie will be serving Sporting Blend coffee. Doors open at 6 a.m. CT. and the show is free to attend.
