Defenseman Wellar Reassigned to ECHL Alaska

Peoria, IL (October 24, 2006) - Peoria Rivermen General Manager of Hockey Operations Kevin McDonald announced today that defenseman Patrick Wellar has been reassigned to the team's ECHL affiliate, the Alaska Aces - 2006 ECHL Kelly Cup Champions.

Wellar, 22, opened his season by appearing in two games for the Rivermen this past Saturday and Sunday. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound native of Carrot River, Saskatchewan, helped the Aces capture the 2006 ECHL Kelly Cup by appearing in all 22 playoff games and recording four playoff points (2g, 2a). The third-year professional registered 19 points (6g, 13a) in 53 games for Alaska during the 2005-06 regular season. He also appeared in five regular-season games for the Rivermen with two (2) penalty minutes.

The Rivermen continue their season-long, six-game road trip against the San Antonio Rampage on Thursday, October 26 at 7:00 p.m. CDT at the AT&T Center.
