On Sunday night, Pirates goaltender Mike Wall made 16 saves and Bjorn Melin (above) scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season as the Portland Pirates beat the Binghamton Senators 5-3 at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The Pirates won their sixth straight and remain in first place in the Atlantic Division. The Pirates 6-0-0-1 is the best start through the first seven games in the 14 year history of the franchise.
Next game: Friday, October 27th @ Worcester 7:00 p.m. The UnumProvident Challenge is currently at 1-1 with eight games left in the series. The winner of the UnumProvident Challenge will receive $10,000 to be donated to a charity of the winning team's choice. Next home game: Saturday, October 28th vs. Providence 7:05 p.m. HOCKEY NIGHT IN PORTLAND! In celebration of 30 Years of AHL Hockey in Portland, the Pirates will be wearing throwback jerseys. Pirates Hall of Famer Kent Hulst will join the celebration - dropping the ceremonial first puck. Plus, the Maine State Lottery Spin Wheel will be at the game and AAA of Northern New England will be taking pictures of fans with Crackers and Salty Pete and giving away prizes.
UPCOMING PROMOTIONS
Pirates/WJAB Player of the Week - Pirates goalie Mike Wall is the Pirates Player of the Week. This is the first time this season Wall has earned the honor. Wall earned two victories this past week to extend the Pirates winning streak to six games. Wall will join the Morning Show with Shoe and Joe on WJAB 1440AM/95.5FM on Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m. Following the interview, fans will have the opportunity to win free Pirates tickets.
Portland Press Herald Photo Series - This Saturday the Portland Press Herald will produce the second of 15 full page, full color action photos as part of the 2006-2007 Portland Pirates Poster Series. Every Saturday the Portland Press Herald will print one large action photo on the back of the sports section.
Country Kitchen Clinics- The Portland Pirates, in conjunction with Country Kitchen, are offering three (3) FREE clinics taught by Pirates coaches and players at CCCC for area youth hockey players starting in November. For more information click here!
Friday, November 03, 2006 - 7:05 PM vs. Norfolk Admirals Amato's Future Stars Friday! During the 2006-07 season the Pirates are proud to offer the all MSHA, Middle School and High School hockey players a chance to catch all Pirates Friday home games on us - free of charge! All you need to do is present your Amato's Future Stars ID card at the ticket window the day of the game or in advance and you will receive one (1) FREE reserved seat. This is a great way for the future stars of tomorrow to watch and learn from the stars of today! .
IN THE COMMUNITY
Tuesday, October 31st -The entire Pirates team will make the first of many trips to the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center. During this visit the players will be involved in the annual Halloween parade starting at 1:00 p.m.
