DES MOINES, IA - Iowa Stars Director of Hockey Operations Scott White announced Monday evening that Defenseman Matt Nickerson has been reassigned by the Dallas Stars from Iowa to the organizations ECHL affiliate, the Idaho Steelheads.
The 6-4, 238-pound Nickerson has skated in 12 games for the Iowa Stars this season, recording 23 penalty minutes: 12(0/0/0)23.
In three games with the Idaho Steelheads earlier in the season, the physical blueliner registered a 'plus 3' rating and 18 penalty minutes: 3(0/0/0)18. Activated off the National Hockey League's (NHL) Injured Reserve list on Saturday, October 28th, the 21-year old played the 2005-06 season with Assat Pori in Finland. He led the Finish Elite League with 236 penalty minutes while collecting five goals and eight assists in 36 games: 36(5/8/13)236.
Drafted by Dallas in the third round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, the Old Lyme, Connecticut native played the 2004-05 season with Victoriaville of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). In 48 games with Victoriaville, he posted 12 points (1/11/12) with 182 penalty minutes.
He attended Clarkson University (ECAC) in 2003-04, notching 14 points (5/9/14) with 179 penalty minutes in 38 games. Prior to that, he spent two seasons (2001-2003) with the Texas Tornado (NAHL), appearing in 94 games and tallying seven goals and 35 assists for 42 points with 374 penalty minutes: 94(7/35/42)374.
IOWA STARS INFO: The Stars hit the road again for another game against the Chicago Wolves. Iowa will play the Wolves in Rosemont, Illinois on Tuesday, December 5th. They then return home to Wells Fargo Arena for a Tuesday, December 12th game against those same Wolves. On Tuesday the 12th, as part of Getaway Tuesdays, the Stars will be giving away a FREE roundtrip airfare for two to Las Vegas courtesy of Allegiant Air.
