12.9.06 - Worcester vs. Springfield - DCU Center
12.10.06 - Worcester @ Providence - Dunkin' Donuts Center
A Quick Look Back
12.1.06 - Worcester 3 - Norfolk 1
Thomas Greiss' 37-saves paced the Sharks to a 3-1 win at Norfolk on Friday night and earned the team points in four of their last five games played (3-1-1-0). Mathieu Darche had two assists in the game to lead all skaters and hand Norfolk their first regulation loss on home ice this year.
12.2.06 - Norfolk 4 - Worcester 2
One night after saddling the Norfolk Admirals with their first regulation home loss of the year, the Worcester Sharks failed to keep pace with one of the AHL's top scoring offenses and came up short by the score of 4-2. The loss dropped the Sharks to 1-1 on the three-game weekend road trip and saw the team fall into a three-way tie for fourth place in the Atlantic Division with Manchester and Springfield.
12.3.06 - Worcester 2 - Hershey 1
Playing their third game away from home in as many days, the Worcester Sharks finished their road trip on a high note, earning a 2-1 overtime victory over the Hershey Bears in one of the AHL's most hostile environments, the GIANT Center. Nolan Schaefer stopped 36 shots prior to teammate Grant Stevenson scoring the eventual game-winner 2:09 into overtime, and the Sharks gained four of a possible six weekend points against top Eastern Division competition.
Strong Special Teams...
On Sunday night, the Worcester Sharks killed off all eight Hershey man-advantages, including two 5-on-3 opportunities. Hershey is ranked fifth in the league on the power play with a 20.7% success rate. To complement their strong defensive work, both goals scored in the 2-1 win came on the power play. Worcester's 22.8% success rate on the power play ranks them at No. 3 in the league.
Raving about Riley...
Sharks forward Riley Armstrong scored a career-high ninth goal on Saturday, December 2 against the Norfolk Admirals. The goal was his first of two on the night in a 4-2 loss. Armstrong has played well as of late and since the San Jose Sharks recalled rookie sensation, Joe Pavelski, Armstrong has found a home on the first line with Mathieu Darche and Grant Stevenson. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native finished the weekend with three goals (3+0=3). All three of his tallies came on the power play and was even in the plus/minus department. Armstrong has 13 points on the season with 10 goals and three assists in 23 games played.
Back on Track...
Sharks netminder Nolan Schaefer turned in a gutsy performance on Sunday evening against the reigning Calder Cup Champion Hershey Bears. Schaefer made a season-high 36 saves enroute to a 2-1 overtime victory in the Chocolate City to snap a personal three-game losing streak. Schaefer played magnificent as he stopped Hershey's barrage of shots all game. "I've lost the last few games," said the 6-foot-2, 200-pound netminder. "So, it was nice for me to get that confidence back and then be able to help my team out in the latter part of the game."
Taking a Bite Out of the Cold...
On December 8 against the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Sharks are partnering with Baystate Financial Services for a Coat Drive. All fans are encouraged to donate new or old coats at the game and will receive a free ticket to the game on December 26 against the Wolf Pack. All proceeds will benefit the Mass DSS Kids Fund. Come support the cause and help the Sharks and Baystate Financial Services take a bite out of the cold winter season.
Live TV...
It's also the first locally televised game in Worcester Sharks Franchise History and will be aired live on Charter's WCTR-3. If you cannot make the game, tune in to channel 3 at 7:00 p.m. and join the play-by-play Voice of the Sharks, Jamie Smock, as well as color-analyst Kevin Shea.
