Binghamton Senators News Release
LAST WEEK: The Senators (7-14-0-2, 16 pts.) were 1-2 last week, including a 4-2 victory of the Syracuse Crunch at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena on Friday night.
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 29th @ LOWELL (2-6 L):
The Senators offense was held in check until the third period, as RYAN VESCE struck on the power play for his fourth tally of the season to make it a 4-1 contest. Justin Papineau answered for the Devils, as he collected his second goal of the night just thirty seconds after the VESCE tally. Papineau ended the night with four points (2+2=4) as he earned first star honors. After two additional Lowell markers, SERGE PAYER buried his third marker of the season. Binghamton Senators goalie KELLY GUARD was replaced by JEFF GLASS at 11:55 of the third period, as GUARD took a knee to the head during a Lowell break. Lowell goalie Jordan Parise, who collected 42 saves against the Senators on Nov. 4, ended the night with 37 saves.
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 1st vs. SYRACUSE (4-2 W):
RYAN VESCE started the scoring for the Senators, as the Cornell graduate added a power-play marker at 11:36 of the first period. CHARLIE COOK fed VESCE from behind the net, and VESCE tapped it past Ty Conklin. With Syracuse on the power play in the final minute of the opening stanza, SERGE PAYER dished to a wide open GRANT POTULNY who smashed a one-timer past Conklin to give the Senators a 2-0 advantage. The short-hander was the first of the season for POTULNY. Mark Hartigan got Syracuse within one, as the winger netted a power-play marker midway through the second period. Hartigan blasted a one-timer which found its way through traffic and past the glove of JEFF GLASS. Binghamton allowed only five shot on goal during the period. Both teams had a man in the penalty box late in the third, as JOSH HENNESSY gathered a rebound and scooped it in the corner of the net. HENNESSY'S ninth tally of the season stretched the Senators lead to 3-1. Syracuse would not go quietly. Winger Joe Motzko smashed a one-timer from the left face off circle past GLASS. The tally made it 3-2 game early in the third period. DANNY BOIS closed the door on the Crunch. BRIAN MALONEY fed BOIS from behind the cage, as BOIS snapped a wrist shot past Conklin to ice the game and give Binghamton their third win in the last four games. GLASS had 16 saves to earn his second victory of the season.
.
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 2nd vs. WBS PENGUINS (2-1 L):
The first period was owned by both goalies, as JEFF GLASS and Jeff Deslauriers stopped 17 combined shots leading to a scoreless opening stanza. The Senators capitalized on the power play midway through the second period, as Alain Nasreddine was tagged with a hooking call at 11:42. JOSH HENNESSY fed an open DANNY BOIS the pass, as BOIS blasted a one-timer from the left faceoff circle past Deslauriers to put the Senators up 1-0. The Penguins bounced back at the end of the second period with an even strength marker by Daniel Carcillo with just one second remaining on the game clock. Great defensive play was the story in the last period, as the officials did not call a single penalty in the last twenty minutes. It looked like another overtime game at the Arena, but Kyle Brodziak had other ideas. The 22-year-old center slipped a wrist shot past GLASS at 19:30, giving him two game-winners this season. GLASS had 26 saves in the losing effort. BOIS has nine points (6+3=9) in the last eight games.
THIS WEEK: Binghamton (7-14-0-2, 16pts.) plays four games in five nights, including two games against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, who the Senators shutout 1-0 on Friday, Nov. 24. The Senators also travel north of the boarder for the first time this season, as they play a Sunday matinee in Toronto.
SCOUTING REPORT
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 6th @ BRIDGEPORT (7:30):
The Senators edged the Sound Tigers 1-0 in their last meeting, as goalie JEFF GLASS had 34 saves in route to his first shutout performance of the season. JOSH HENNESSY collected the game-winner, as he buried a shorthanded goal just minutes into the contest. After winger DANNY BOIS took a tripping penalty at 4:30 of the opening stanza, HENNESSY buried a one-timer past former B-Sens' goalie Billy Thompson to give the Senators a 1-0 lead. The marker was HENNESSY'S eighth of the season, and his second short-hander. GLASS took over in the second period, stopping 14 Sound Tiger shots including three power-play opportunities. Bridgeport is led by Jeff Tambellini's 22 points (11+11=22). Goalie Wade Dubielewicz is currently 7-3-0-3, with a 2.60 goals-against-average.
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 8th vs. NORFOLK (7:05):
The Senators played two games against the Admirals in Norfolk, as the Virginia turned out to be unfriendly. On Friday, Nov. 17, the Admirals defeated the Senators 8-2. Danny Richmond and Colin Fraser scored twice while former Senator Brandon Bochenski and Martin St. Pierre notched three assists each as Norfolk rolled past Binghamton 8-2 Friday night at Scope. The eight goals against was a season-high and the six-goal margin of defeat tied a franchise record first set in a 9-3 loss at Syracuse March 24, 2006. The Sens started well enough as DANNY BOIS netted a power play goal 2:55 into the game to put the visitors on top 1-0. The goal came just eight seconds into a power play as Dustin Byfuglien was in the box for tripping. It marked the third consecutive contest that Binghamton scored the game's opening goal, but the lead lasted all of 39 seconds. Leading scorers Brandon Bochenski and Martin St. Pierre were called up to Chicago (NHL), leaving Troy Brouwer as the Admirals offensive leader (11+12=23). Cory Crawford is currently 13-4-0-1, with a 2.32 goals-against-average.
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 9th vs. BRIDGEPORT (7:05):
The Senators welcome Bridgeport back to the Arena for the first time since losing 5-2 on Friday, Nov. 3. Goalie Wade Dubielewicz took first star honors, as he collected 34 saves on the night. SERGE PAYER and ARTTU LUTTINEN each tallied for the Senators in the losing effort. Rookie winger Blake Comeau has turned into a nemesis for the Senators, as he has collected seven points (1g, 6a) in three games this season.
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 10th @ TORONTO (4:00):
The Sunday matinee marks the first of four meetings with the Toronto Marlies. The Senators were 3-1-0-0 last season against the Marlies. Toronto (9-11-2-2, 22pts.) is led by Erik Westrum, who has collected 23 points (7+16=23). In goal, Jean-Francios Racine is 5-4-0-2 with a 2.62 goals-against-average this season.
SENS IN THE COMMUNITY: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society held a reception on Sunday, Dec. 3 at the Jewish Community Center. The reception was held to thank those who participated in the Light the Night Walk back in October. The Senators, who took part in annual walk, were on hand at the reception.
