
Defenseman Justin Schultz Named to AHL All Rookie Team

Oklahoma City - Edmonton Oilers defenseman Justin Schultz was named to the 2013 American Hockey League All Rookie team, the league's front office announced today.
Schultz, a 6-2, 185-pounder from Kelowna, B.C signed with Edmonton last summer, but began the season with Oklahoma City and had an immediate impact with the Oilers' AHL affiliate. He played in 34 games with the Barons and scored 48 points (18-30-48). That included a franchise record-tying 10-game point-scoring streak and a separate nine-game point-scoring streak.
Although he hasn't played in the AHL since January 5, Schultz still leads all AHL defensemen in points and was recently surpassed as the top rookie scorer in the league. He earned CCM / AHL Player of the Month honors for the month of October and CCM / AHL Rookie of the Month honors for the month of November.
Schultz has continued his solid play with the Oilers. Through 34 games this season, he the top scoring rearguard on the team with 20 points (6-14-20). Schultz and his Oilers teammates continue to take aim at a playoff spot when they take on the Phoenix Coyotes tonight at Rexall Place in Edmonton at 8:30 p.m. (ct).
The Barons continue their hunt for a playoff berth on the road this week. April 10, they take on division rival Houston at 7 p.m. April 12, they visit the Rochester Americans at 6 p.m. (ct). They close out the weekend against the Hamilton Bulldogs on April 14 at 3 p.m. (ct). All three games can be heard on the Barons flagship station, 96.1 KXY.
