Zucker Named to AHL All-Rookie Team

Houston, TX - The Houston Aeros, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, announced on Wednesday the 2012-13 AHL All-Rookie Team, as voted by AHL coaches, players and media in each of the league's 30 member cities.

The team consists of one goaltender, two defensemen and three forwards:

2012-13 AHL All-Rookie Team (stats through Apr. 9)

Goaltender -- Niklas Svedberg, Providence Bruins (45gp, 34-8-0, 2.18gaa, .924sv%, 4so)

Defenseman -- Justin Schultz, Oklahoma City Barons (34gp, 18+3048pts., +8, 7 PPG, 3 GWG)

Defenseman -- Sami Vatanen, Norfolk Admirals (59gp, 8+3644pts., +1, 4 PPG, 2 GWG)

Forward -- Ryan Spooner, Providence Bruins (54gp, 14+3751pts., +10, 8 PPG, 3 GWG)

Forward -- Tyler Toffoli, Manchester Monarchs (55gp, 28+2048pts., +20, 6 PPG, 3 SHG)

Forward -- Jason Zucker, Houston Aeros (53gp, 24+2448pts., -5, 12 PPG, 8 GWG)

Each All-Rookie Team member will receive a custom-designed crystal award in recognition of his selection to the 2012-13 AHL All-Rookie Team.

Zucker leads the Aeros in goals scored with 24 and is tied for the team lead in points with 48 in 53 games played. He ranks third among all AHL rookies in goals, tied for third in points, first in power-play goals (12), second in power-play points (23), first in shots (196) and first in game-winning goals (8). Overall, Zucker is tied for the AHL lead in game-winning goals. The 21-year old, totaled five points (4-15) and was a plus-five in 14 games with the Minnesota Wild this season. He scored his first NHL goal in his season debut Feb. 17 versus Detroit. The 5-foot-11, 186-pound forward was born in Newport Beach, Calif., and raised in Las Vegas, Nev. In January, Zucker a goal and an assist in the Western Conference's 7-6 win in the AHL All-Star Game.

Zucker collected 46 points (22-2446) in 38 games during his sophomore campaign at the University of Denver last season. He also served as team captain for Team USA at the 2012 World Junior Championship and tallied seven points (3-47) in six games. He was selected by Minnesota in the second round (No. 59) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Houston continues a ten-game home stand at Toyota Center on Wednesday with the Oklahoma City Barons at 7:05 p.m. The team continues the home stand with San Antonio on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. The game marks a "Thirsty Thursday", where fans (21 and older) receive a "second drink free coupon" for The Maple Leaf Pub (Smith and Elgin). The first 500 fans to The Maple Leaf Pub after the game will be able to redeem their coupon for their second drink free.
