Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, today announced that defenseman Adam Comrie has been loaned to the Royals from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League.
Comrie, a sixth year pro from Great Falls, Virginia, began the season with the Royals and scored fifteen goals, assisted on nineteen others (thirty-four points) and picked up fifty-seven penalty minutes in thirty-nine games for the team prior to being recalled to the Lehigh Valley on January 21. While with the Phantoms, he added fifteen points (9g-6a) and eleven penalty minutes in thirty-two AHL Games.
Comrie's thirty-four points with Reading, which led defensemen on the team in the regular season, actually led all d-men in the ECHL at the time of his recall and was tied for twelfth most overall in the league. At the conclusion of the regular season, Comrie, who received the Royals' Most Valuable Player Award, was selected to the All-ECHL Second Team.
This past season marked the third year in which Comrie, a former third round of the Florida Panthers in 2008, played in Reading. In 2014-15, Comrie registered fourteen points (7g-7a) and twenty-eight penalty minutes in twenty regular season games with the team. He also played all seven games in the East Division Semi-Final playoff matchup against the South Carolina Stingrays last April. In that series, Comrie racked up four points (2g-2a), which included scoring back-to-back power play goals in a 6-1 win in Game Six of the series. In his first season with the Royals, 2012-13, Comrie led all defensemen on the Royals with thirty-three points (17g-16a) in forty-five games with the team. His seventeen goals that year established a team record for goals in a single season by a defenseman. At the conclusion of that season, he was also named to the ECHL's All-Second Team. In 105 career regular season games with the Royals, Comrie has racked up eighty-one points (39g-42a), which places him third all-time to Simon Tremblay (19g-67a=86 in 111 games) and Denny Urban (28g-54a-82pts in 117 games) in scoring by a defenseman with the team.
Comrie is the twenty-second player added to the Royals 2016 playoff roster. Reading has one available spot on the playoff roster with three playoff eligible players remaining: Connor Knapp (g), Pavel Padakin (f), and Mike Pereira (f).
