Colorado Salvages Triple OT Affair as Series Shifts to Utah

Loveland, Colorado - The Colorado Eagles scored 2:31 into triple overtime to beat the Utah Grizzlies 5-4 Sunday evening at Budweiser Events Center.

With the win, Colorado manages to win a game on home ice before the series heads back to Utah for game three starting Thursday at 7 p.m.

Utah took game one of the series 3-2 this past Thursday.

The 102:31 affair was the second longest contest in Grizzlies history and less than five minutes from the team record for the longest game played.

Ryan Faragher entered the game in relief of Mark Owuya 13:03 into the first period with the Grizzlies trailing 3-1 after the Eagles scored three quick goals in 90 seconds to erase a 1-0 deficit and take a 3-1 lead. Faragher stopped 33 of 35 in the contest and the first 21 that he saw after regulation.

The Grizzlies battled back as Connor Hardowa made it 3-2 early in the second period before T.J. Syner had a chance to tie with a penalty shot, but just missed.

Utah held Colorado at three goals and tied the game 40 seconds into the third period as Ryan Hayes buried a shot from between the circles with assists going to Barry Almeida and T.J Syner.

The Eagles got the lead back 3:54 into the frame, before Utah tied the game again as Charlie Sarault blasted a shot four-on-four with 11:42 left in regulation.

The game stayed 4-4 for 54:13 before the Colorado game-winner. Utah had 18 shots in the overtime play.

The Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead 7:53 into the first period as T.J. Syner tipped home a Phil Pietroniro blast with Ryan Hayes also picking up an assist.
