De Leon's three-run blast propels Yankees past Scrappers in extras

Staten Island, NY - The Mahoning Valley Scrappers lost the final game of a three-game series to the Staten Island Yankees today 4-1 at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.

Kelvin De Leon's bottom of the 10th inning game-winning three-run home run off of the Scrappers' Julio Ramirez proved to be the difference as the Yankees avoided the sweep. Ramirez suffered the loss for the Scrappers.

Chase Whitley pitched a scoreless top of the tenth inning to pick up the win for the Yankees.

Despite getting a no decision, Mike Rayl pitched well lasting 5.2 innings, giving up one run on one hit and striking out a season-high nine Yankees.

The Scrappers will continue their six-game road trip as they begin a three-game series against the Lowell Spinners tomorrow night. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
