Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Vermont Lake Monsters, 8-2, at Dutchess Stadium tonight. Hudson Valley won its second consecutive series over a team currently poised to make the playoffs, and won the season series from Vermont, four games to two.

With the win Hudson Valley raised its record to 27-25 this year, and collected 10 hits, their 21st game with double digit hits this year. The 'Gades also finished the homestand with four wins in six games, improving their record to 8-5 (.616) in August.

The two teams traded scoreless innings until the bottom of the third. In the third, 'Gades All-Star Robby Price doubled in Brian Bryles and Chris Winder to give Hudson Valley a 2-0 lead, and came in to score on Steven Tinoco's single.

In the fifth inning, the Renegades pushed across four more runs, highlighted by Burt Reynolds' two-run triple, for a 7-0 lead. Price hit a sixth inning sacrifice fly, giving him three RBI in a single game for the first time, and capping the scoring for Hudson Valley. Vermont scored twice in the ninth, to make the final score 8-2.

Burt Reynolds became the first Renegades player to collect 20 extra base hits this season. Only five Hudson Valley players reached that milestone from 2007-2009 (Tyler Bortnick in 2009...Kyeong Kang and Jacob Jefferies in 2008...Reid Fronk and Michael McCormick in 2007).

Hudson Valley now has five players who have scored 20 runs (Schwaner, Dietrich, Wunderlich, Tinoco, Reynolds, Price), five players with 20 or more RBI (Schwaner, Wunderlich, Tinoco, Reynolds, Price), four players with 10 or more steals (Schwaner, Reynolds, Winder, Price), and six players with 10 or more extra base hits (Reynolds, Wunderlich, Price, Schwaner, Dietrich, Acosta). The 'Gades lead the league with 69 stolen bases and are one of three teams with 100 or more doubles.

In his last start before the New York-Penn League midsummer classic in Staten Island, Renegades All-Star pitcher Wilmer Almonte recorded one of his best outings of the year. Almonte (W, 3-2) struck out eight Lake Monsters, walked none, and surrendered just 3 hits in 6.1 scoreless innings. He now owns the top two single-game strikeout totals among Renegades hurlers this season, finishing one shy of his season-best (9 strikeouts, accomplished July 28th at Vermont), and struck out seven straight hitters between the fourth and sixth innings. He became the second New York Penn League pitcher to reach 50 strikeouts in 2010.

The Renegades head to Batavia for their final series before the All-Star break, where they will play three games from August 13th to 15th. Tomorrow night's game and Saturday night's game will begin at 7:05 pm at Dwyer Stadium in Batavia, NY. The series will conclude Sunday with a 1:35 pm contest before a league-wide off day on Monday.
