Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Kyle Day's fourth inning grand slam gave the Green & Gold the lead for good in their 5-3 victory at Kinston. The Hillcats took two out of three games from the Indians to take the series to snap the K-Tribe's six series home winning streak.

For the third straight game in the series Kinston scored first with a run in the bottom of the first inning on the solo home run by Abner Abreu. Lynchburg promptly answered that run with one of their own in the top of the second inning. Kevin Coddington blooped a single over a drawn in infield to score Neftali Soto and tie the contest.

The Indians came right back though with two runs in the bottom of the second to regain the lead at 3-1. Ronald Rivas doubled in a run and Justin Toole singled in a run as well in the inning. The Hillcats would turn that two-run deficit into a two-run lead in the top of the fourth inning. After loading the bases with one out on just one hit, Kyle Day blasted a grand slam off the scoreboard in right field to give the Green & Gold the lead. It was the first grand slam of the season for Lynchburg.

Starter Mark Serrano (3-5) picked up the win for Lynchburg (2-1, 31-42) and Donnie Joseph (5) notched the save. The loss went to starter Joe Gardner (6-2) for Kinston (1-2, 37-36). The Hillcats will send right-hander Lance Janke (3-4, 5.87) to the mound in game one of a three-game series with Myrtle Beach at 6:05 p.m. at City Stadium.
