THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg pounded out a 9-1 win last night at Kinston to even the series at a game a piece...The nine runs scored matched the most by the Hillcats in a game this season and their 16 hits were one shy of their season-best...Tonight is the deciding game of the three-game series at Grainger Stadium...
VS. KINSTON: Lynchburg is 7-5 against Kinston this season and they are 3-2 at Grainger Stadium...The Hillcats went 10-10 versus the Indians in 2009 and were 6-4 at Grainger Stadium...Lynchburg is 155-152 all-time against the Indians and 69-85 in Kinston...

MOVERS AND SHAKERS: The Hillcats have made several moves since the all-star break and made another one today when they added OF Felix Perez to the roster and placed RHP Nick Christiani on the Disabled List...Perez was promoted from the Rookie Dominican Reds...Lynchburg also recently promoted RHP Brad Boxberger and INF Carlos Mendez to Double-A Carolina...Boxberger, who was the Hillcats lone All-Star in the first half, was seventh in the Carolina League in ERA (3.20, fifth in strikeouts (70) and second in strikeout per nine innings ratio (10.03)...Mendez was hitting a team-leading .296 and had a team-best 73 hits...INF Alex Buchholz, INF Miguel Rojas and Christiani were placed on the Disabled List and RHP Chase Ware and INF Shane Carlson were promoted to Lynchburg from Low-A Dayton...
SECOND CHANCE: OF Felix Perez was promoted from the Rookie Dominican Reds today...In 16 games in the DSL, he was batting .429 with a home run and 14 RBI...Perez was set to sign a 3.5 million dollar deal with the Yankees last year before Major League Baseball suspended him for lying abut his age (he claimed he was 20, when he was really 25)...The Reds signed the outfielder for $550,000 to a minor league contract and he will make his debut in the United States tonight...
CANADIAN CONNECTION: RHP James Avery allowed one run in five innings f work last night and matched his career-high in strikeouts with seven...Last night's game marked the fourth straight start the Avery has thrown to C Jordan Wideman as his battery mate...Avery is a native of Saskatchewan, Canada, while Wideman is from Ontario, Canada...Wideman went 1-for-4 a night ago with three runs scored and a walk in the win...Avery in 2-1 when Wideman is behind the dish and the Hillcats earned run average is 2.48 when Wideman is catching...
JUMP RIGHT IN: INF Shane Carlson went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored last night in his Hillcats debut...He was batting .275 with a home run and 25 RBI in 38 games with Low-A Dayton before his promotion yesterday...Carlson was a 32nd round selection of the Reds last year out of UC Santa Barbara...
NOT SO GREENE: UTIL Brodie Greene went 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI, a run and a walk last night...It was his first double, RBI, run scored and multi-hit game as a professional...In just his fourth game as a pro he became just the third Hillcat this season to knock four hits in one game (UTIL Neftali Soto, 5/1 and C Devin Mesoraco, 5/10)...Greene was promoted to Lynchburg from Rookie Billings last Friday and made his professional debut that night...He batted second and started at short stop and went 1-for-5 with his first career hit as a pro...Just ten days earlier he was playing his final collegiate game for Texas A&M in the NCAA Coral Gables Regional...The Aggies lost to Miami in the regional, a team that was led by C Yasmani Grandal, who was the Reds first round selection (12th overall) in this year's draft...Greene was the fourth round selection of the Reds in the same draft and batted .395 with 14 homers, 55 RBI and 23 steals in 65 games this season with the Aggies...Greene was a second-team All-Big 12 selection and in his college days he played every defensive position except catcher and first base...
MIXING THINGS UP: OF Josh Fellhauer went 3-for-5 last night with an RBI, a run and a walk and he is now 9-for-21 (.429) on the road swing with a double, an RBI and three runs scored in five games...He has batted in the fifth, third, seventh and sixth spot in the line-up in the last five games, which marked the first times this season he has hit anywhere in the line-up other than first or second...Fellhauer was 1-for-15 (.067) in his previous four games, was 4-for-27 (.148) in his last nine contests and was batting .167 (9-for-54) in the month of June before his multi-hit game on Friday night, which was his first since June 8th...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Joe Gardner was selected by the Indians in the third round of the 2009 draft...His junior and only season with the Gauchos, he went 7-1 with a 3.40 ERA in 13 starts after transferring from Ohlone College...This season he made his professional debut with full season Low-A Lake County and had a 1-0 mark with a 3.24 ERA in six starts for the Captains before earning the call-up to Advanced-A...With Kinston he has gone 6-1 with a 1.58 ERA in nine starts...In his lone start against Lynchburg he did not allow an earned run in five innings of work and picked up the victory at City Stadium...
