Brian Peacock hit a two-run triple in the eighth to lift Potomac to an 8-6 win over Myrtle Beach Saturday at Pftizner Stadium.
Trailing 6-5, Derek Norris walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch by Paul Clemens, and then scored on a Mike Burgess double. Clemens intentionally walked Bill Rhinehart to get to Peacock, who made him pay with the game-winning triple.
With the win, the P-Nats picked up a win in the first series of the second half of the Carolina League season.
Peacock was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI for the night. Burgess was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
Myrtle Beach struck early, tagging Potomac starter Trevor Holder for two runs on two hits in the first inning. Holder hit L.V. Ware on the first pitch of the game. With Cory Harrilchak at bat, Ware stole second and then scored on a Harrilchak single. Harrilchak took second on a throw to the plate, took third on a single by Mycal Jones, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Dan Nelson.
But the early lead didn't last long.
The P-Nats exploded for five runs in the second inning. Myrtle Beach starter Randall Delgado plunked Mike Burgess and walked Tyler Moore before Bill Rhinehart tripled to score both runners. Rhinehart scored on the same play after a throwing error by the second baseman. Peacock singled to the shortstop just before Josh Johnson drilled a two-run shot to right, making it a 5-2 game.
But again, the lead was short lived.
Mike Jones reached first on a fielding error by second baseman Steve Lombardozzi just before Travis Jones hit a two-run homer to left. Nelson, a former P-Nat, followed with a home run of his own to tie it up 5-5.
The Pelicans retook the lead in the sixth when Potomac reliever Carlos Martinez committed the second balk of his career with Ware on third.
Johnson finished the night 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk. Rhinehart was 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI and a triple.
Clayton Dill earned his fourth win of the season, tossing a scoreless eighth inning. Dan Leatherman picked up his fourth save, striking out two and retiring the side in order in the ninth.
The P-Nats head out to Kinston for a three-game series with the Indians, beginning Sunday at 5 p.m. Potomac right-hander Adrian Alaniz is scheduled to face Marty Popham.
