Brampton Steelheads News Release
The Belleville Bulls traveled to Mississauga to conclude the 2014-15 regular season series with the Steelheads. In three games so far, the Steelheads have victories in two of them. The first time the Bulls were in town, the Fish took the game by a score of 3-2. The Steelheads hosted representatives from Bell to promote their national awareness Bell Let's Talk campaign, and welcomed members from the Cooksville minor hockey association.
The Trout came out with a quick start, rolling all four lines in the first three minutes of the game. Sean Day laid a huge hit on Belleville's David Tomasek, which led to the first scoring chance of the game for the Trout on the ensuing breakout. Niki Petti got the Bulls on the board, tipping in an Alex Yuill point shot past Jacob Brennan at 6:43. Midway through the period, Bobby MacIntyre absorbed a high hit from newcomer Jesse Saban, who headed to the box for checking to the head as a result. Shortly after the power play, Brandon Devlin rang a shot off the post and Sam Babintsev was stopped in close in a flurry as the Steelheads tested Charlie Graham. MacIntyre showed he was none worse for the wear as he set up Day's tying goal; Marcus Dickerson tallied the other assist (his first career OHL assist). Brennan robbed Brett Welychka late in the period as he stuck out the pad on the short side attempt. The Trout headed to the power play in the last minute of the frame and took 1:04 of power play time into the intermission.
The Trout were unable to convert on the power play to start the period, but they didn't play flat-footed. Bryson Cianfrone and Jimmy Logge broke into the zone on a two-on-one. Cianfrone fed Lodge, for the shot, but Graham got over in time to make the save. Adam Donnelly got into it with Jake Bricknell and the two dropped the mitts. The Bulls power play got the better of the Steelheads in the middle frame, as Jordan Subban and Stephen Harper extended the lead to 3-1 in favour of Belleville. The Steelheads cut into the lead before the end of the period, however as Nick Zottl potted his first of the season off of the leg of Adam Bignell.
Babintsev was reunited with Cianfrone and Lodge to start the third period. Jordan Subban scored his second goal of the game, re-instating the two goal lead just after the seven minute mark of the third. Nathan Bastian nearly had a goal halfway through; Burnside and McLeod worked down low and fed Bastian in the slot, but the puck got stuck underneath Graham. Harper put the Trout on the power play in the third, and Mississauga got a little revenge of their own. The power play unit connected on a sweet passing play that resulted in Day potting his second of the game and setting a career high simultaneously. Adam Laishram killed Mississauga's momentum as he put the Bulls up 5-3 not long after. With the goalie pulled, the Trout mounted some good offence, but couldn't get another puck past Graham and took a loss of 5-3 in this one.
The Steelheads hit the road Saturday as they take on their divisional rival in the Colts in Barrie tomorrow, but return to the Hershey Centre on Sunday to host the Owen Sound Attack. Great seats for Sunday are still available through Ticketmaster or at the Hershey Centre box office.
