Davis Walk-Off Wins Fifth Straight for Baysox

Bowie, Md. - Baysox outfielder Glynn Davis hit a walk-off home run to lead-off the bottom of the 11th inning in the Baysox 7-6 win over Akron Wednesday night. The win was the Baysox season-high fifth-in-a-row and will allow the team to try for a four-game home sweep against Akron tomorrow afternoon.

The Baysox led 6-2 after the second inning, but Akron slowly worked back to a 6-6 tie after four innings. No more runs were scored until the Davis game-winning home run in the 11th inning. In total, six batters were hit by pitches in the game, including three by Baysox reliever Andrew Triggs. Despite the extra baserunners, the Baysox bullpen pitched 7.1 scoreless innings on Wednesday.

Baltimore Orioles infielders J.J. Hardy and Ryan Flaherty were once again in the Baysox lineup, playing in Bowie on Major League Rehab Assignments. The duo combined to go 3-for-9 with two runs and two RBIs coming on a Ryan Flaherty home run in the second inning. After three games for the Baysox, both Hardy and Flaherty are 4-for-12.

As they have done very well during this series, the Baysox scored first in the bottom of the first inning. Mike Yastrzemski drew a lead-off walk and Hardy followed with a one-out single to center field. With two outs, Garabez Rosa brought both runners home with a single to right field. Rosa later scored when Jason Esposito reached on a fielding error by Akron shortstop Erik Gonzalez.

The RubberDucks got two runs back in the top of the second inning against Baysox starter Tim Berry. Anthony Gallas hit a lead-off single to left field and Destin Hood followed with a double to left-center field. Yandy Diaz then singled to center field to bring home the first run of the inning and Hood later scored on a Bryson Myles groundout to make the score 3-2.

Bowie added three more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Chris O'Brien hit a lead-off double to right-center field to extend his team-leading hitting streak to 15 games. Michael Burgess then brought him home with a double to left field and Flaherty added the final two runs with a home run to right field that gave the Baysox a 6-2 lead.

Akron got another pair of runs in the top of the third inning. Todd Hankins drew a one-out walk and moved to second base when Gonzalez reached on a fielding error by Esposito at third base. With two outs, Hood doubled through the hole at shortstop to bring both runners home and make the score 6-4.

The RubberDucks tied the game in the top of the fourth inning. Tony Wolters opened the inning by being hit-by-a-pitch and Myles followed with a single to left field. Wolters later scored on a sacrifice fly and with two outs, Myles scored on a Hankins double to left field after stealing second base to tie the game 6-6.

Davis broke the tie with his walk-off home run, his first of the season, to left field off Akron reliever Jacob Lee in the bottom of the 11th inning to make the final score 7-6.

Berry threw 3.2 innings and allowed six runs (four earned) on six hits while striking out two and walking one in the no decision. Triggs threw 3.1 scoreless innings in relief, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out three. Reliever Kenn Kasparek pitched the final four scoreless innings for the Baysox, not allowing a hit and striking out two in the win.

RHP Elih Villanueva (3-2, 2.83) takes the mound for the Baysox Thursday as the team plays the final game in a four game home series against the Akron RubberDucks. He will be opposed by LHP Shawn Morimando (2-2, 2.36).
