Thunder Snap Skid with 6-Run Fifth

Trenton Thunder News Release
The Thunder broke a four-game losing streak on the strength of a six-run fifth inning on Wednesday night at ARM & HAMMER Park. With the 9-1 victory over Erie, the Thunder improved to 12-14 on the season.
Offensively, the Thunder wasted no time when Aaron Judge and Greg Bird had back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. From there, Erie starter Austin Kubitza retired nine straight batters and faltered in the fifth inning with his command.
Jose Rosario led off the fifth with a bunt single then Jake Cave and Aaron Judge walked to load the bases with nobody out. Greg Bird was hit by a pitch to bring a run home and Eric Jagielo followed him with a two-run single to take a 4-0 lead for the Thunder. Following a pitching change, Dante Bichette Jr. brought home two more runs with a single and was caught in a run down long enough to allow Mason Williams to score on the play and make it 6-0.
The six runs of support was all that Brady Lail (W, 1-2) needed for his first Double-A victory. Lail pitched into the sixth inning and allowed just one run on eight hits and one walk.
The Thunder won despite being outhit by the SeaWolves 12-8. Bird, Jagielo and Bichette Jr. each drove in two in the game and the Thunder offense also worked six walks in the victory. Kyle Haynes and Nick Goody fired four shutout innings of relief to finish off the victory.
Your Thunder look to earn a split of the four game series with Erie on Thursday morning at 10:30am. The home team will throw LHP Miguel Sulbaran (2-1, 3.09) while the visitors will counter with RHP Warwick Saupold (0-1, 8.53).
