Davis, Tribe Offense Wash Away Tides on Prospects Night

INDIANAPOLIS - Rookie Davis delivered his longest start in 21 months, Jose Osuna hit a towering two-run homer in the first inning and the Indians laced six doubles in a 7-1 rout over Norfolk on Saturday night.
Davis (W, 1-3) excelled on 11 days rest. He tossed his second consecutive quality start with a 7.0-inning performance, his longest since an 8.0-frame start on Aug. 25, 2017 with Louisville at Toledo. He allowed only one run on eight hits, struck out four and surrendered one walk while stranding seven Tides on the bases.
After falling behind early in the series opener, Indianapolis (22-17) got right to business against New Albany, Ind. native Josh Rogers. In the bottom of the first, Osuna snuck a fly ball over the left-field wall to give the Indians a 2-0 lead. The home run had a 47-degree launch angle and traveled 322 feet.
The Indians tacked on another run in the second. Jacob Stallings set himself up in scoring position with a leadoff double, and a wild pitch by Rogers brought him 90 feet from home. Eric Wood then shot a single up the middle to extend the lead, 3-0.
Back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the fourth inning by Stallings and Pablo Reyes gave Indy its fourth run, but the Tides (19-21) would take it back in the top of the fifth on a two-out RBI single by Ryan Mountcastle, scoring Anthony Santander who had doubled.
After three straight scoreless innings, the Tribe offense broke loose for three more runs in the eighth to cap the scoring. With the bases loaded, Kevin Kramer sent a long fly ball off the wall in left field for a double, extending the lead to 6-1. The two-bagger was his first hit of the series. Stallings then grounded into a fielder's choice, bringing Will Craig home.
Jake Brentz (S, 2) tossed two shutout innings in relief of Davis for the save. He has not allowed a run in 5.1 Triple-A innings since joining the Tribe on May 6.
The Indians and Tides conclude their weekend series on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. ET. Right-hander Mitch Keller (4-0, 3.83) will face southpaw Luis Ysla (2-2, 5.40).
