Davies Delivers Baysox to Victory

Chesapeake Baysox News Release
Baysox starter Zach Davies was untouchable in his first seven innings on the hill and Bowie rewarded him in a big way late as the Baysox blew open a tight game to win 8-2 Sunday evening in Binghamton.
Davies allowed a double with one down in the second inning but settled down to retire the next 14 batters. After striking out an eighth batter of the night to end the seventh inning, he had faced just one batter over the minimum.
He outdueled Binghamton starter Steven Matz who allowed just an unearned run in six stellar innings. The Mets bullpen could not live up to the game that had preceded. Bowie busted through for three runs in the seventh inning and put the game away with a four-run eighth inning to lead 8-0.
Davies (8-6) allowed three of four batters faced to reach in the eighth inning. Two scored in the frame but reliever Mychal Givens came in and settled things down. Givens worked 1 and 2/3rd scoreless innings.
With the win, Bowie held ground in the standings as both Akron and Erie were winners. The Baysox ended a four-game losing streak and fended off a sweep attempt with the win.
Bowie returns home with a Tuesday Fireworks Show on the annual Navy Night at Prince George's Stadium, August 5th at 6:35 p.m. against the Portland Sea Dogs. LHP Tim Berry will be on the hill for the Baysox.
