Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

HARLINGEN - Chase Davenport struck out five while scattering four hits and two walks in six and two-thirds innings to lead the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings past the San Angelo Colts 3-2 on Tuesday at Harlingen Field.

It was Davenport's (1-2) first professional victory.

The first place-WhiteWings (10-3) are now winners of five-straight.

After Colts (6-7) starter Chandler Barnard (2-0) retired the first six batters he faced, Leo Delgado led off the third with a double, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice-fly by Brandon Decker.

The WhiteWings didn't get another base runner until Wesley Dimitt and Edgar Trejo led off the fifth inning with home runs to make it 3-0.

The Colts didn't get their first against Davenport until the fourth inning and they only had three hits through six innings. However, with two on and two out in the seventh, Danny Rondon came on in relief and allowed a two-run single to Ronnie Gaines.

Edgar Martinez pitched a scoreless ninth for his sixth save.

The WhiteWings and Colts play game two of this eight-game series on Guaranteed Win Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. If the WhiteWings don't win, everyone in the ballpark receives a free ticket to the next home game. Right-hander Alexander Concepcion (2-0, 3.18) is expected to face right-hander Gorman Romero (1-0, 3.52). Gates open at 6:05.

The WhiteWings are hosting a free youth clinic at Harlingen Field at 5:00 p.m. with WhiteWings players and coaches. All participants will receive a free ticket to the game. Gates open at 4:45.
