Another Great Outing By Barnard, But Colts Fall Short

June 7, 2011 - North American League (NAmL)
San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas---The first meeting between the Colts and the WhiteWings in 2011 was a pitching dual, as Colts righty Chandler Barnard duked it out with southpaw Chase Davenport. San Angelo who took over second place in the final game against McAllen would try to gain some ground on the first place WhiteWings, but would fall short in a 3-2 loss.

Rio Grande scored first when Leo Delgado led off the third with a double and was driven in on a sac fly a couple of batters later by Brandon Decker, to make it 1-0. In the fifth the WhiteWings would get two more runs when they lead off with back-to-back homeruns by Wesley Dimitt (2) and Edgar Trejo (3) to extend the lead to 3-0.

San Angelo pulled to within one in the seventh when Ronnie Gaines singled and drove in two to make it 3-2. The hit in his final at bat also extended his hitting streak to start the season, to thirteen games. The leagues save leader Edgar Martinez (6) would come on in the ninth and strikeout out the side though to preserve the win, as the Colts lose by that final. Lost in this game was Chandler Barnard's terrific outing, as he went seven innings, allowed six hits, three runs, walking just one, while striking out four in his first loss this season.

In game two it will be a battle of righties as right-hander Gorman Romero (1-0, 3.52) throws for the Colts, against righty Alexander Conception (2-0, 3.18) goes for the WhiteWings. It all begins with the pre-game show at 6:45, with the first pitch at 7:05. Catch all the Colts action Wednesday on 101.9 FM "The Fire".
