Winston-Salem Dash News Release
ROME, GEORGIA - Despite a ninth-inning rally attempt, The Winston-Salem Dash were defeated by the Rome Braves 7-3 on Saturday night at State Mutual Stadium.
Karan Patel took the mound for game five and allowed a leadoff walk to Cody Milligan. Drew Campbell drove the first pitch he saw to left field and drew all eyes as he tried to stretch a double into a triple, allowing Milligan to speed home and put the Braves in front 1-0.
Rome extended their lead by three in the home third. Riley Delgado led off the inning and drove a 2-2 pitch to right for a single, after which he was pushed to second on a walk drawn by Cody Milligan. Drew Campbell tallied a second RBI as he singled to right to bring Delgado home. After two consecutive outs, Vaughn Grissom singled to right field to drive in Milligan and Campbell.
Karan Patel continued to struggle into the fourth inning and left runners on the corners as Trey Jeans entered in relief. Cody Milligan hit a grounder to Harvin Mendoza who fired the baseball past the plate for an error to score Rusber Estrada and move the Braves ahead at 5-0.
Jesse Franklin V joined the party in the sixth with a solo home run to right field, marking his 23rd homer on the season.
Rome tacked on another run on an eighth inning fielder's choice before the Dash began a short rally in the home ninth. Jeremiah Burks led off and was hit by a pitch, then shifted all the way to third as Alex Destino singled on a grounder to right field. Burks and Destino were both driven in as Luis Curbelo doubled to left. Harvin Mendoza pushed Curbelo home on a single to right.
After a Rome mound visit, a ground ball single and three consecutive strikeouts sent the Dash packing and the Braves took a series-securing 7-3 victory. Braves starter Jake McSteen (2-3) racked a victory, while Karan Patel (0-2) took his second loss for Winston-Salem.
The two teams will meet for the final time on Sunday at State Mutual Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET.
