Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Bowling Green leveled their series with the Dash 1-1 behind excellent pitching from the bullpen.
Winston-Salem had their bats come to life from the first pitch of the game. Leadoff man Terrell Tatum laced a single into center field, then Moises Castillo did the same with Tatum advancing to third on an error. The very next batter Oscar Colas pulled a single through the right side of the infield to score Tatum, and the Dash jumped ahead 1-0.
In the top of the second, Keegan Fish worked a walk, and later in the frame stole second base. With two outs now, Castillo attacked the first pitch he saw and ripped it into right field. Fish got the green light coming around third base, and narrowly beat the throw home to give Winston-Salem a 2-0 lead.
Dash starter Andrew Dalquist allowed just a single through two innings, but Bowling Green got to him in the third. Alexander Ovalles smacked a leadoff double, then advanced to third on a sacrifice fly. Later, Ovalles came in to score when Ronny Simon lifted a sacrifice fly of his own.
The Hot Rods kept coming in the fourth inning, starting with a Kyle Manzardo single. A wild pitch allowed him to take second base, then a ground ball to second baseman Jason Matthews saw Manzardo advance to third. There, another wild pitch bright Manzardo home to tie the game at 2-2. With two outs, Dru Baker cranked a solo home run to put Bowling Green ahead 3-2.
Dalquist bounced back and got through the fifth unscathed, which turned out to be his final inning. Dalquist continued his strong form as of late, working five innings flat with just three runs on his line, and a pair of strikeouts.
Winston-Salem was sent down in order in both the fifth, sixth, and seventh, allowing Bowling Green to extend their lead in the home half of the seventh.
Beau Brundage drew a walk, then Ronny Simon singled with Brundagae moving first to third. Alika Williams then reached on a fielder's choice, with Brundage alertly scoring on the play to put the Hot Rods up 4-2.
The Dash could not muster any more offense after that, and Bowling Green nabbed a 4-2 win.
Sean Mullen earned the win, with Joe LaSorsa picking up a save. Andrew Dalquist was the losing pitcher for Winston-Salem.
