Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (JULY 6, 2011) - Nick Ciolli's spectacular, home run-robbing catch from last night's game against the Salem Red Sox ranked number two on ESPN SportsCenter's "Top Ten" plays of the night. The play can be viewed on the Dash's YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/WSDashBaseball.
Last night in the top of the fourth inning, Salem's David Mailman hit a deep fly ball to right field. Ciolli ran straight into the short fence near the foul pole and made the catch before he went tumbling headfirst over the wall, holding onto the ball in the process. After coming to his feet, grimacing from the hard fall to the concrete floor on the other side of the wall, Ciolli threw the ball back toward the infield and remained in the game. Later in the contest, he hit a single, stole a base, and scored in Winston-Salem's 3-2 loss to the Red Sox. A left fielder for most of this season, Ciolli was playing right field after Jose Martinez, the Dash's All-Star right fielder, was promoted to AA Birmingham earlier in the day.
Ciolli's catch marks the first time that the Dash and BB&T Ballpark have been featured on SportsCenter. The Terre Haute native's play was second only to Darnell McDonald's game-ending outfield assist from last night's Boston Red Sox-Toronto Blue Jays game.
Tonight the Dash welcome the Myrtle Beach Pelicans to town for a three-game series before Winston-Salem hits the road for three series away from BB&T Ballpark. First pitch for tonight's game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Fans may purchase tickets by calling the Dash at (336) 714-2287, visiting www.wsdash.com, or stopping by the BB&T Ballpark box office.
The Winston-Salem Dash are the Class-A Advanced minor league affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. To purchase tickets and for more information, please call 336-714-2287 or visit www.wsdash.com .
