Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (JULY 6, 2011) - Today a familiar face returned to Winston-Salem, as right-handed pitcher Stephen Sauer (right arm tendonitis) was activated from the disabled list for the first time this season and assigned to the Dash. In a corresponding roster move, catcher Jason Bour was promoted to AA Birmingham.
Sauer suffered an arm injury during spring training and stayed in Arizona to start the 2011 season. The Las Vegas native spent all of 2010 with Winston-Salem, starting 26 games and going 8-10 with a 4.89 ERA. His best start of the year came in game one of the Mills Cup Championship Series against the Potomac Nationals when he pitched eight shutout innings with five strikeouts and no walks en route to picking up the victory. Sauer was drafted by Chicago in the tenth round in 2008 out of Arizona State University, where he pitched for one season after transferring from Western Nevada College.
Bour had spent the entire 2011 season with Winston-Salem, hitting .183 (19 for 77) with one home run and nine runs batted in. This is the Centreville, Virginia native's second stint with the Barons. Bour spent 18 games with Birmingham in 2010, hitting .237 (14 for 59) with two doubles and two RBI. He signed with the White Sox organization as a free agent that season and played 41 games for the Dash, hitting .302 (45-149) with six homers and 26 RBI. He was originally drafted by the Reds in the 23rd round in 2007 and reached as high as AA Carolina with the Cincinnati organization.
The Dash roster remains at the Carolina League limit of 25 players.
