Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Winston-Salem opened up The Battle of I-40 with a dramatic late-inning rally to beat the Greensboro Grasshoppers 4-3.

It was Greensboro controlling things early on, when Henry Davis launched a solo shot over the left field hill to give the Grasshoppers a 1-0 lead after the top of the first.

After a scoreless bottom of the first, the 'Hoppers tacked on another run on a bases-empty blast from Maikol Escotto, this one out towards the Foothills Flight Deck beyond the right field bleachers.

In the top of the fourth, Greensboro got more traffic on the bases. Matt Gorski led off with a single and promptly stole second base. In stepped Dariel Lopez**,** who scorched a 1-1 pitch into left field to bring Gorski around to score and give the Grasshoppers a 3-0 lead.

Winston-Salem found a groove in the bottom of the fourth though, on singles by Adam Hackenberg and Harvin Mendoza**.* *Shawn Goosenberg** delivered for the Dash, lining a double to the wall in right-center, bringing in a pair to cut the Grasshoppers lead to 3-2.

Both bullpens traded zeroes from there, until the home half of the seventh. Again, Winston-Salem got the first two runners aboard with a Moises Castillo single followed by an Oscar Colas double. With runners on second and third, Bryan Ramos cleared the bases with a hard-hit single into left field. The Dash took their first lead of the game 4-3, into the eighth inning.

That score held into the top of the ninth, and out came Gil Luna, Jr. to lock down the save. He answered the call, striking out a pair and securing a 4-3 Dash win. Zack Cable earned the win in relief, and Jack Carey. Game two of the series is set for Wednesday evening, Karan Patel is slated to take the ball for the Dash, opposing Sean Sullivan for the Grasshoppers.
